Q. Can I use LongRider in my 2007 engine equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)?
A. Yes, LongRider is available in both CI-4 Plus and CJ-4 formulations. Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and MBE 4000 engines can use oil certified to API CI-4 Plus standards. The ash content in CI-4 Plus may shorten the typical DPF clean-out cycle from 250,000 miles to 200,000 miles depending on the application. Q. Is LongRider approved to use in my engine?
A. Yes. LongRider is certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) to meet CI-4 Plus and CJ-4 specifications. LongRider also meets the standards set forth by Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Mack, and Volvo.
Q. Will LongRider void my warranty if I extend my drain intervals?
A. No, it should not. The engine manufacturers and the end-user companies have agreed through committee work at the TMC (American Trucking Associations Technology and Maintenance Council) that extending drains beyond the equipment manufacturers recommended interval is increasingly common and allowable as long as the oil performance is monitored through oil sampling and analysis. Further, it is always recommended that when a company has an engine problem, that an oil analysis be performed to aid in determining the cause of the problem.
Q. What engines or equipment can be switched to LongRider?
A. Any engine or piece of equipment that has been well maintained, regardless of age, is ideally suited for the oil. Whenever an engine or piece of equipment has not been well maintained or if it is a very old engine or piece of equipment, the user must be more vigilant in the transition to the oil.
Q. What should I look for if my engine is old or has not been well maintained?
A. In all probability, the engine or equipment has a high level of varnish and deposits left from previous oils. LongRider like all synthetic oils will break down, soften and ‘clean’ these deposits from your engine. Because of the condition of the engine or equipment, you should monitor the performance carefully and check the oil level daily. Old seals harden and once the deposits are removed, you may experience blow-by or excessive oil consumption.
Q. Will my add oil usage increase?
A. Sometimes when you switch oils, regardless of the type or brand, you may experience a need to add increased make-up oil for a period of time. In the case of LongRider, once the seals soften and the engine parts are micro-polished, you will see the need for add oil return to a normal level. The actual time this will take depends on the application and the number of miles or hours the equipment is utilized each day. Q. What if I have an older piece of equipment and I feel the engine running rough, smoking, or knocking?
A. Chances are this is part of the clean-out process. You should however, check the air filter and oil filter to determine if they are dirty or clogged. If so, change them. Often, those who have an older engine or piece of equipment will change the oil at a normal or early interval before going to an extended drain program. This will rid the filter and oil of the deposits that have been freed and will replenish the engine/equipment with fresh oil and filters. You will then begin to realize the full benefits of the oil.
Q. What if there is a problem with my engine and the cause is attributable to LongRider?
A. LongRider offers a limited warranty on the performance of our products. If for any reason there is an engine problem or failure attributable to the product, LongRider will reimburse the customer for all reasonable and customary costs.
Q. What are the benefits I will experience when switching to LongRider?
A. In addition to being able to significantly extend your oil service interval, other benefits include a quieter, smoother running engine or piece of equipment, lower emissions, a slight improvement in torque and horsepower, lower operating temperature, and improved energy or fuel efficiency.
Q. How long can I go between drain intervals?
A. That will depend on the type of engine or equipment, operating conditions, and proper oil filtration. Careful oil analysis is the best way to determine how long you can go between oil drains. Testing of motor oils by the ASTM, revealed that LongRider, on average, lasts over 4 times longer than most conventional oils and over 2 times longer than other synthetic oils. Again, your particular application may increase or decrease that ratio, depending on the results of the oil analysis.
Q. Will LongRider mix with other oils?
A. Yes, LongRider is fully compatible with other mineral and synthetic oils. Using another oil to “top-off” or as “add oil” will of course slightly dilute the overall performance of LongRider.
Q. What weight oil should I use and do I need to change the weight for different climates or seasons?
A. It is always a good practice to use the specified weight oil that the OEM recommends. OEMs generally do not require you to change oil weight to accommodate the temperature or season.
Q. Can I use a heavier weight oil for more protection?
A. The weight of the oil does not correlate to actual protection. The ability of an oil to protect and lubricate an engine is determined by film strength, not thickness. Long Rider is proven to have a film strength up to 4 times stronger than other oils.
Q. What makes LongRider better versus other conventional or synthetic oils?
A. Most companies use a medium or even low grade of base stock and purchase a “shelf” additive package to formulate their oil. By doing so, it renders the oil similar to others who use the same type stock and additive package. Q. In addition to increased performance, should I anticipate an engine or piece of equipment that will have less maintenance or breakdowns?
A. Again, it all begins with the state of the engine or equipment when the oil is first added. The newer or better the engine or equipment has been maintained, the quicker you will experience the benefits. Long term, you will experience less engine/equipment maintenance and downtime, plus fewer oil-related repairs.

A. Again, it all begins with the state of the engine or equipment when the oil is first added. Over time, since LongRider provides superior protection, the engine will experience less friction and heat, which will prolong engine-life.
Q. Overall, is the higher cost of LongRider worth the investment?
A. Yes. When considering the benefits of extended drain intervals & fuel economy, LongRider becomes less expensive than conventional oil. The investment in LongRider is returned in multiples through labor savings on oil service, parts and repairs, equipment downtime, oil and filter purchases, volume of used oil to dispose of, and fuel / energy savings. An entire years investment can often be returned within the first six months.
Q. Is LongRider a “Moly” oil?
A. There are two types of Moly or Molybdenum used in oil. Moly-disulfide or “black Moly” plates with engine components and is insoluble in oil. After a period of time the plating will build up to a point where it can break off and become captured by the oil filter. At issue is that the build up will eventually plug up the lubrication path to vital areas that will cause a catastrophic failure. The Molybdenum that Royal Purple uses is a soluble in oil and does not plate on engine components.
